Let's mobilise PPP for development – Reroy

The Management of Reroy Group, dealers in electrical cables, has urged stakeholders in the private sector to mobilise and actively partner the public sector to help Ghana meet the middle-income status infrastructural requirements.

The Group noted that effective Private Public Partnership (PPP) had become an acceptable institutionalised mechanism that leveraged on the specialised capacities and expertise of the private sector to support the public sector and facilitate economic and social development of a country.

These were contained in a statement, signed by Mr Anthony Mensah, the Public Relations Officer of the Reroy Group, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, on Thursday.

The statement said the sufficiency of any economic strategy was its ability to deliver efficient goods and services to her peoples through private public partnership.

The statement said countries like India, the United Kingdom, and United States of America had successfully used PPP arrangements in executing critical infrastructure projects.

“Reroy, therefore, advocates and proposes the immediate passage of the PPP Law including the regulations, differential pricing regime for utilities to industry; and the formulation of directly-related policy to support its implementation -including incentives, and non-tariff barriers to enable local industries to be more competitive as import substitutes, ” the statement said.

The Group extended its sympathy to bereaved families of the recent national disaster, adding that, “the incident undoubtedly is a clear evidence of a combination of infrastructure inadequacy and irresponsible human attitude.”

The statement noted that these inadequacies could be addressed through massive injection of investment capital in the critical areas, and the desirable change of attitudes which is of key importance.

The Group urged the law enforcement agencies to be active and exercise their duties professionally, adding, “Enforcement is a key to ensuring comportment of citizenry and an acceptable level of discipline in the society.”
