Mr Julius Debrah, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development as part of his tour of the Northern Region inspected on-going projects in the Tamale Metropolis and the Sagnarigu District.
The projects included the Tamale Social Housing, Aboabo market, Tamale market, Tamale International Airport, a road construction in the Tamale Township sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and an eight classroom block at the Nurses and Midwifery Training School.
The Minister also paid a courtesy call on the Commanders of some security agencies and the regional executives of the various political parties.
The courtesy calls were used to solicit the support of the security services and the political parties to help make the National Sanitation Day (NSD) campaign a success in the Region.
Mr Debrah used the occasion to appeal to the executives of the political parties to help sensitise the public on the need to participate in the upcoming District Level Elections (DLE).
He stressed the need to vote for competent assembly members to steer the affairs of their assemblies to promote development.
Mr Debrah said the district level elections should be devoid of partisan politics and stressed that DLE were development pillars of the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
He mentioned a number of programmes and projects the Ministry was pursuing including the Small and Medium Enterprises, Social Housing, Biofil toilets and boreholes to improve water supply as well as good hygiene and advised the public to take advantage of government projects.
He promised to provide some biofil toilets and boreholes to support communities, which lacked such facilities as means of addressing open defecation.
Air Commodore Griffiths Santrofi Evans, Garrison Commander and Northern Regional Police Commander, Ken Yeboah both reiterate their commitments to make the NSD a bigger exercise, which will surpass the three previous ones in Accra and Kumasi.
The political parties also promised to lead their supporters on the schedule day to clean up their offices, surroundings and some parts of the city to ensure the promotion of environmental and public health.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister, said Government was working to bring more investors into the country to ensure development especially in the Northern Region to bridge the gap between the southern and the northern sector.
He said the Region was opened to investors and that the Regional Coordinating Council was ready to provide support to investors who would relocate to Region.
Mr Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said the Metropolis would take advantage of the local economic development to empower the people of Tamale through the provision of infrastructure development to promote buying and selling, agriculture and general trading.
He said the Tamale Metropolis had achieved a lot under the NDC’s "Better Ghana Agenda" and that the benefits of the projects had helped improve the living standards of the people.
