Locally-made products must meet quality standards

Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, Afigya-Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE), has asked Ghanaian entrepreneurs to make sure that their products are of high quality and properly packaged.

He said this was necessary to gain increased local patronage and consumption – to sustain their businesses on the path of growth.

They should also adopt best practices and keep proper records to enable them to benefit from financial support from the banks.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku was speaking at a ceremony held to draw the curtains down on a two-week employable skills training for 55 selected people in the district at Ntiribuoho.

They were exposed to skills in soap-making and taught how to process soya bean into different products – soya milk, soya chips and soya oil. The goal was to help boost household incomes.

The programme was organized by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) under the Rural Enterprises Programme (ERP) and it was sponsored by the district assembly.

Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku said there was no doubt that a vibrant private sector would create wealth and jobs to make things better for everybody.

He gave the assurance that the assembly would continue to work with the BAC to provide the people with alternative livelihoods to improve their economic conditions.

Madam Marina Kusi, Head of the BAC, encouraged the trainees to take the initiative to set up their own businesses – create employment for themselves and other people in the area.

Nana Kwame Agyeman, an opinion leader at Ntiribuoho, applauded the BAC and the assembly for the intervention and pleaded that the trainees were assisted with start-up capital to operate their businesses.
