Accra, Dec. 23, GNA - The Ghana Lotto Operators Association (GLOA) on Tuesday welcomed the pledge of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to promote legitimate private lotto business if voted into power. "If the NDC is concerned about our plight we wish to welcome them and ask the NPP to also come out with its plans concerning private lottery," GLOA said at a press briefing in Accra.

It said the NPP should declare its position before voting on December 28.

Mr Seth Amoani, Secretary of the Association, however, pointed out that GLOA remained neutral when it came to politics. He said although members might have political differences it was clear that they would not vote for a party that would deprive them of their livelihood.

According to him GLOA's activities had provided jobs for over 1,000 Ghanaians across the country. NDC's pledge comes in the wake of judgement of an Accra Fast Track High Court outlawing the operations of GLOA.

Dismissing the action, the court upheld that Act 722 of the Lotto Act was lawful. The association was challenging the constitutionality or otherwise of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) Act 2006, Act 722. The members are Obiri Asare and Sons Limited, Rambel Enterprise Limited, Dan Multi Purpose Trading Enterprise, Agrop Association Limited, Star Lotto Limited and From Home Enterprise. 23 Dec. 08
