Obuasi, Jan. 29, GNA- Eight employees of Mining and Building Contractors (MBC), a mining and construction company at Obuasi have been honoured for their meritorious services to the company in 2008. The eight, all junior workers, were each given a certificate and a television set at the company's maiden annual get-together held in Obuasi.
They are Peter Laab-Garia, Alex Ntim, Francis Anim, Zakari Mustapha, Collins Artur, Frederick Tetteh, Patience Osei-Bonsu and Johnson Appau.
Mr Luigi Balduzzi, Managing Director, in a speech read for him, said the company attached great importance to the health and safety of its workforce, stressing that "we have endeavoured to create safe and environmentally healthy conditions at all working areas". He said the company was determined not to pollute the environment and appealed to the workers to assist the company in that direction. The Executive Director of MBC, Mr Paul Atsonglo assured the workers that their efforts would not go unnoticed and urged them to rededicate their commitment to the course of the company.
He pointed out that the workers could help the growth of the company only when they put aside the "bad habits of back-biting, slander, rumour-mongering, bitterness and petty squabbles". Mr Osei Owusu-Hyiaman, the Management Services Manager said the eight workers were selected based on their hard work, observance of safety practices, punctuality and discipline.
He said the annual get-together was going to be institutionalized and that the award component would be expanded to cover both junior and senior staffs. 30 Jan. 09
