Accra, Sept. 26, GNA – The Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI) has introduced two additional core modules into its oil and gas training tailored towards giving direct jobs to beneficiaries.

The Entrepreneurship and Career Development, and Natural Gas training had become important because after the initial scan of the Ghanaian oil and gas market, many jobs would be created within the support services sector, Abdul Karim Adam, Coordinator of the training said on Monday.

Mr Adam told the Ghana News Agency that the modules would be taught in the second phase of the training scheduled for Monday September 26, 2011 and that the introduction of the two modules had become necessary because the Ministry of Energy’s policy document indicated some 5,000 direct jobs would be created in the oil and gas industry.

He said, “The Ministry of Energy has indicated in the Petroleum Policy document of 2011 that about 5,000 direct jobs would be created between 2011-2015”, and that there was the need to add those new modules to help beneficiaries to secure immediate jobs after the completion of their courses.

“The additional modules are tailored in such a way that they would immediately harness the opportunities available in the oil and gas market”, Mr Adam said, adding that all beneficiaries would continue with the chosen career modules alongside with the new modules.

He advised beneficiaries to avail themselves for the training and expressed the hope that the Phase III would immediately follow after the end of Phase II saying, “We are doing our best to ensure the early completion of the courses.”

Mr Adam said with the establishment of the Youth Enterprise Project under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), a World Bank funded programme, beneficiaries would also form clusters and partnerships to access funds to build their careers based on their experiences from the training.

He advised beneficiaries to be wary of unsuspecting fraudsters and swindlers who would take undue advantage of the high demand for placement in the training to extort monies from them, saying “MDPI and the Goodwill International Group have not contracted any one to recruit persons for training.”
