The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has warned the general public to be wary of fraudsters who are in the business of collecting various sums of money from victims claiming to have cars at Tema Port for sale.

A release issued by the Marketing and Corporate Affairs department of the Authority stated that a lot of people have been duped of monies ranging from GH¢1,000 to GH¢3,000.

Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager for Tema Port, Paul Ansah-Asare, speaking on the issue said a large number of people have contacted the office to report the incidents.

He said the fraudsters usually operate via social sites -- olx.com and tonaton.com -- where they post images of cars at the Tema Port to convince their victims, after which they demand between GH¢1,000 and GH¢3,000 through MTN Mobile Money from their victims as down-payment.

The port authorities are therefore calling on the general public to report anybody that approaches them under the guise of selling a car at the Tema Port to them via any of the named social sites.
