The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has presented 25 tricycles to farmers in the Kwahu Afram Plains North and South Districts, at a ceremony at Donkorkrom.

The tricycles are to help the farmers to transport their produce from their farms to marketing centers to reduce the drudgery that farmers go through to market their produce.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, said the presentation formed part of a project her outfit was implementing to support farmers nationwide with 3,000 tricycles.

She said this year, MASLOC aimed to present 1000 of the tricycles to beneficiaries, with Donkorkrom being the first of such presentations. The remaining 2,000 would be presented to beneficiaries next year.

Mrs Attionu urged the beneficiaries to pay for the tricycles regularly, based on the terms given them, to ensure that others also benefit from the facility.

She warned the beneficiaries against the use of the tricycles to transport people, explaining that, they were manufactured for transportation of goods and not passengers.

Mr Daniel Axim, Head of Operations, MASLOC, said that the tricycles were given to the beneficiaries at GH¢ 13,000.00 each, including a comprehensive insurance policy for three years.

He said each beneficiary paid a deposit of GH¢ 500.00, with the remaining balance being spread over three years with regular monthly payment of GH¢ 378.00.

Nana Akuamoah Boateng Tanor II, Atakorahene of Donkorkrom, appealed for the construction of a toll bridge between Ekye-Amamfrom and Adawso to help promote the fast development of the Afram Plains.

He also appealed to MSALOC to support more of the farmers with the tricycles to help reduce the problems of carrying foodstuffs to the market.

Earlier, in a welcoming address, the District Chief Executive of Kwahu Afram Plains North, Mr Windham Emil Afram, expressed his appreciation to MASLOC for helping to provide employment to the youth in the area, and expressed the hope that, the tricycles would bring a lot of relief to farmers in the Afram Plains.
