Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Service Executive of the telecom service provider MTN, said on Friday that the March 3 deadline fixed by the National Communication Authority does not imply the registration of SIM cards will end after tomorrow.

What it means is that existing subscribers who have not had their numbers registered would be disconnected and would lose those contact numbers, she said.

Mrs Lumor who assumed her current position in September last year, gave the explanation when she interacted with Management of the Ghana News Agency during her maiden visit to the GNA offices in Accra.

“For network subscribers who have made the effort to register their SIM cards using any of the approved forms of identification be it a passport, Voter ID card or driver’s license, their numbers are secured even if their registration has not been validated yet”, she said.

She urged MTN network subscribers who had registered their SIM cards to verify their registration status by sending a blank text to code number 400.

Ms Lumor also called on those who had not registered at all to take advantage of the final hours to go through the process before they forfeited their contact numbers tomorrow, March 3. “And even after the deadline anyone who buys a new SIM card can still register it anyway”, she added.

The Corporate Service Executive praised the professionalism exhibited by the GNA in its operations over the years and said MTN as a service provider committed to excellence was proud to partner with the Agency.

Welcoming the MTN team, Mr Mawusi Afele, Acting General Manager of the Ghana News Agency urged closer collaboration between the premier telecom service provider and the GNA, saying such partnership would inure to the benefit of both organizations and their clients.

He expressed gratitude to MTN for its continuous assistance to the Agency, particularly the recent refurbishment of the GNA newsroom, and said further collaboration in the area of capacity building for editorial staff would be appreciated.

Other senior officials present at the meeting were Mr Rex Annan, Adminstrative Manager, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed Aryeequaye, Senior Accountant, Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Issahaq, Head of the Home News Desk and Mrs Yaa Oforiwah Asare-Peasah, Acting News Editor, all of the GNA.
