MTN Gaming Conference: Stakeholders call for investment in industry

The maiden edition of the MTN Gaming Conference was held at the Accra Digital Centre on Friday, August 30, 2019.

The forum served as a platform for stakeholders within the gaming industry such as programmers, artists, game designers, audio professionals, and business decision-makers to deliberate and exchange ideas on developing and maximizing gains in that industry.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo Ganson observed that gaming on the global space has witnessed a dramatic growth recently and urged Ghana and African countries to take full advantage of the opportunity.

Citing a report by the Newzoo which states that video gaming generated a whopping €100 billion worldwide in 2018, Kojo Ganson opined that the promotion of the video and electronic game would enable people have a better and balanced life.

The Chief Executive Officer of Empire Arcadia Esports Team, Eric Elder, in an address as the keynote speaker outlined the stages of developing a video game which includes brainstorming, production, post-production and the building of a manual for the game.

According to him, the gaming market has the potential to generate huge revenue for African countries and thus appealed to the leadership to invest in the sector.

He mentioned Brazil as one of the countries that have embraced gaming and using it as a platform for innovation and uniting communities.

Eric Elder observed that with the ever-increasing usage of mobile phones and other forms of technology, video gaming will soon take centre stage and asked African countries to position themselves well for the benefits the sector could offer.

Triforce Johnson, the CEO of Empire Arcadia Esports Team intimated that the key to unlocking the potential and benefits of the video gaming industry does not only lie in the appreciation for technology but also unity among the stakeholders.

“Africa is the land of opportunities and the future of the world, therefore it doesn’t need the world to progress if it takes advantage of technology,” he said
