MTN Ghana Foundation, a Corporate Social Responsibility management structure of MTN Ghana has officially launched its 10th anniversary to celebrate the successes it has chalked in community service since its establishment.
The foundation was established in 2007 as a single purpose vehicle to drive all MTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the country with focus on health, education and economic empowerment and has over the years been actively holding various projects across the country to enhance living conditions of many Ghanaians, particularly those in rural communities.
The foundation has also instituted several themed projects such as the MTN Heroes of Change, Teacher Improvement Awards Project, MTN Reading Club project, Save a Life initiative and MTN Ghana Foundation Incubation Partnership Programme with Ghana Multimedia Incubator Centre.
Speaking at the launch of the anniversary, the Board Chairman of MTN Ghana Foundation Prof. Franklin Manu said the foundation is proud of its achievements over the years which include; improving the wellbeing of communities through economic empowerment initiatives.
According to him, through the intervention of the foundation, about 1000 people have also benefitted from scholarship schemes and many others in the rural areas as well as the urban communities now have access to improved healthcare.
He said, since the inception of the “Save a Life campaign”, the foundation has collected over 6,000 pints of blood to the National Blood Bank and other regional hospitals.
He revealed that the foundation since its inception in 2007 has not relented on its corporate social responsibility as it has invested not less than $13 million in improving the quality of lives of Ghanaians.
Acting Cooperate Services Executive for MTN, Pala Asiedu Ofori disclosed that the celebration is not so much about the number of years the foundation has been in existence, but the impact it has made and continued to make in the lives of individuals and communities across the country.
Jacob Kweku Gyan, CEO of Adroit 360, a beneficiary of MTN Ghana Foundation Incubation Partnership Programme shared his experience on how MTN has helped him achieved his goals by owning his own business.
According to him, MTN believed in his future and that has made him a CEO of an IT company now.
