MTN Ghana in collaboration with aYo Intermediaries Ghana Ltd have launched an insurance service for its customers dubbed ‘aYo Recharge with Care’ insurance policy.

The ‘Recharge with Care’ service enables subscribers to buy a Life and a Hospitalization cover anytime they top up their airtime.

Customers may choose at enrollment a minimum premium of GHC0.5 and a maximum of GHC2.00 to be deducted automatically from their airtime for the cover options they choose.

These premiums are flexible and can be changed at any time to suit the needs of policy holder. Maximum airtime that can be deducted per month for insurance is GHC4.00. Each tranche of deduction gives a cover for 30 days.

The hospital cover pays a benefit amount of up to GHC50 per day in the event that the insured is admitted in a hospital and stays for at least one day.

In addition, the Life Cover gives the insured person up to GHC3,000 for them and a family member depending on the amount of airtime purchased in the previous month.

Speaking at the launch, the Senior Manager Financial Analysis for Marketing, Sopiimeh Guido, said “MTN Ghana in keeping to its commitment of presenting a bold new digital world to its customers. The company continues to partner like-minded organizations to bring value to its customers”.

Mr. Guido explained that “aYo Send With Care' was the starting point of the relationship and aYo ‘Recharge With Care’ had come to present insurance with ease and convenience to everyone on the MTN network. He added that the partnership with aYo and the services being rolled out emphasizes MTN’s commitment to driving financial inclusion in Ghana.

Francis Gota, Country Head of aYo Ghana, said that the decision to introduce an insurance package like ‘aYo Recharge with Care’ was to try and change the perception that insurance was for the rich. Mr. Gota said, “Ghanaians should come to the point where they see buying insurance as a lifestyle choice”.

To register for the service, prospective customers may dial *296# on their mobile phones and select “Signup” to register. To file a claim, the insured may dial *296# and select the |Claim option” on the menu.

The aYo Recharge With Care is a service developed to boost insurance penetration and accessibility among informal workers.
