Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) has earmarked 103 million dollars for capital investment to expand and upgrade its network, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of the telecom giant, has said.
Speaking at an Editor’s Forum in Tamale on Wednesday, Mrs Lumor said the move formed part of the company’s strategy to deliver innovative and relevant products and services for its customers.
The Forum was to update participants about MTN’s projects and services.
Mrs Lumor said MTN’s strategy was to drive sustainable growth while continuing to remain efficient and responsive to the changing needs of the more than 14 million customers of the company.
She said MTN is committed to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to create a distinct experience for its customers.
Mrs Lumor said the company through its operations in the country, has created more than 500,000 direct and indirect jobs affecting the lives of the people.
She said MTN’s revenue in 2014 rose to GH? 1.993 billion as against GH? 1.753 billion in 2013 with the company paying GH? 605 million in various taxes to the government in the previous year.
Mrs Lumor said MTN implemented a number of social responsibility programmes including 57 projects in the education sector, 30 projects in the health sector and eight economic empowerment projects amounting to GH? 19 million.
She said these efforts had impacted on more than 2.5 million people directly and indirectly.
Mr James Basintale, Northern Ghana General Manager of MTN, who elaborated on the services and products offered by MTN, said the company would continue to introduce innovative services to meet the changing needs of its customers.
