Accra, Aug. 16, GNA – Mrs Georgina Fiagbenu, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications of MTN, has reiterated management’s commitment to the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) exercise.
She has, therefore, appealed to the media to continue to educate the general public on the guidelines for porting as outlined by the National Communications Authority while encouraging those who had not registered their SIM cards to do so.
“Both exercises are equally important and we continue to count on you to educate the public,” Mrs Fiagbenu said.
This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by the Corporate Communications Department of MTN Ghana, after an interaction with editors and senior media practitioners in the Northern Region, in Tamale.
It was part of its annual editor’s fora held nationwide for MTN officials to interact with the media and obtain feedback on the company’s operations.
The forum provided an opportunity for the team to share information on the industry with the media to update them on MTN’s business operations and new projects being undertaken by the management.
The Tamale forum followed similar programmes held earlier in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and Volta Regions.
The forum brought together the Northern Regional Ghana Journalist Association Executives, Editors and leading media personalities in the Region.
Some of the specific issues discussed at the event included trends in the telecommunications industry, particularly, the MNP, the on-going Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) registration exercise, MTN Data Services and Corporate Responsibility initiatives by the MTN Ghana Foundation in the Region and other parts of the country.
Mrs Fiagbenu assured the media of MTN’s commitment to sustain these encounters to continue to share telecommunication industry information as well as partner the Ghanaian media, to enhance the knowledge of the Ghanaian public with regard to telecommunication technology and ICT generally.
She also provided an update on MTN foundation’s activities in the country, and expressed management’s gratitude to the media for the diverse ways in which they had supported MTN in disseminating information on its activities to the public.
Mrs Fiagbenu said “If subscribers and the general public get to know about MTN’s world class products and services, Corporate Service Responsibility activities and other investments, it is because you the gatekeepers, have used your media channels to publicise them and we cannot thank you enough for that”.
The Corporate Communications team visited some media houses in Tamale as part of the Regional engagement.
