Mahama meets with US/Ghana Chamber of Commerce delegation

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana met with representatives of the US Ghana Chamber of Commerce in New York City yesterday. Present at the meeting were Hon. Hannah Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Mr. Ken Kanda, Ambassador and Permanent Representative for the Permanent Mission to Ghana to the United Nations.

The President of the Chamber, Ms. Florence Torson-Hart in her remarks stated that there was near unanimous research agreement indicating most economic growth in the upcoming years could be from the developing countries and that global gross capital inflows could reach between $13 trillion to $22 trillion by the year 2030. Developing countries are expected to receive about 47% to 60 % of those inflows during that period.

It is also estimated that developing countries share of those inflows will indeed surpass that of the advanced countries by 2025 as developing countries move closer to the center of the world economic stage. Ghana is well positioned to be a major recipient of these inflows as a result of steady economic growth and investor friendly policies.

President Mahama commended the efforts of the Chamber in fostering investment between Ghana and the United States and also shared some strategic initiatives that Ghana was pursuing.

He mentioned energy, port expansion, transportation, health care and agriculture among others as specific areas of concentration for the country. He also encouraged investors to not only invest in Ghanaian market but to use Ghana as a strategic hub for penetration into the West African sub region.

The US Ghana Chamber of Commerce is headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the mission of facilitating trade and investment as well as advocating on behalf of its members in both countries.
