Former President of Techiman City FC and a prominent member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Ntim, also known as Mickey Charles, has described the party’s Flagbearer John Mahama’s 24-hour policy, which will be implemented when he assumes power, as a brilliant initiative.

According to him, the policy, when implemented, will turn the country’s economy around and have a positive impact on the living conditions of the Ghanaian people as more jobs will be created across Ghana in a thriving economy.

Mr. Mahama says the objective behind his proposed 24-hour economy initiative is to enable businesses to operate three shifts per day. To achieve this goal, he says the government and private sector will collaborate.

“The 24-hour economy is designed to create new employment opportunities, particularly for young people, address unemployment, and enhance living standards in Ghana.”

In a social media post, the NDC flag bearer said his government will enact new laws to support businesses operating a 24-hour system seven days a week (24/7), including labor laws and tax incentives.

Mickey Charles, commenting further on the 24-hour economy policy in an interview with MC Ogee on New York-based Adinkra Radio, described himself as a 24-hour policy advocate and expressed confidence that the policy will ensure the teeming unemployed youth get jobs.

“I’ve listened to GUTA, which says Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy will be a game-changer for Ghana because it will create a lot of employment for many Ghanaian youth who are unemployed, and I believe it will. I’ve also listened to NUGS, who also welcome the policy, saying it’s a good initiative that will boost the economy.

“John Mahama has pledged to cut electricity tariffs and offer tax relief to businesses adopting a 24-hour economic model. Mr. Mahama has promised to ensure security where businesses will be running the 24-hour policy. That will mean that more youth will be employed into the police service to ensure there’s police visibility and enhanced security across the country. Ghana will be a better place to live in when the 24-hour economy policy is implemented.”
