Mahorgany Health Foods, fully vegan café in Accra, organized on Friday 1st November 2019, its very first fully Vegan Seminar.
It was dubbed “Eat better – feel better” in Accra, specifically on the rooftop of Lancaster University, inside AnC Mall, from 10 am till 4pm.
The purpose of this seminar was to celebrate World Vegan Day 2019 (1st November), but also to educate attendees on the health benefits of eating a vegan or plant based diet.
It was also organised to explain the link between adopting a healthy diet and fighting climate Change, and discuss effective ways through which Ghanaians can reduce their heavy consumption of meat for their own health but also to protect our environment.
Two panel discussions took place.
The first one discussed the health benefits of veganism/vegetarianism and plant based diet, explained how harmful to our health it is to eat meat daily.
It also discussed how easy it is to adopt a vegan diet in Accra and gave out simple tips to those who desire to transition from meat-eater diet to a plant based diet.
It was moderated by Muriel Tekou, Expert in Digital Marketing and founder of The Healthy Soul Club, and animated by the following Panelists ( From left to right: Mr Jahi Kenya-owner of a vegan restaurant in Cape Coast called Emperor Ital Joint, Dr Carnita Groves – Founder of the Wellness Communiversity, Muriel Tekou, Mr Kola Braimah-President of the Vegetarian Association of Ghana, Ms Krystine Twum- Owner of Cedarlane Health Foods )
The second panel broke down the concept of Climate change and drew attendees ‘attention on the obvious damages of climate change on the environment and precisely on our country (Heavy Rain, Flooding) and proposed simple ways we can contribute to limiting the damages by planting more trees and supporting organic agriculture.
In between the panels, a delicious vegan Ghanaian Buffet was served by Mahorgany Health foods which included Jollof rice, Red Red, Banku and Okro soup, Tofu and Wheat kebabs.
“Because we have been conditioned to eating meat for so long, we got used to thinking its good for us. It’s time we start educating ourselves on what eating meat really does to our body. It all comes down to awareness. The moment you know, you make better decisions. The less meat you consume, the more energetic and disease-free you will be and the less polluted will our environment be. On behalf of MAHORGANY, I would like to thank our Panelists and attendees for such a wonderful exchange about diet, health and environment. We cannot wait to organize more Vegan summits here in Accra.” - Muriel Tekou, Moderator of both Panels at “EAT BETTER-FEEL BETTER”
