Danquah Institute founder, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has advised local car assembler Kantanka Automobile Company Limited, to mass-produce much more smaller and affordable cars, which many Ghanaians can afford.

Mr Otchere-Darko, who says he owns a Kantanka Mensah, said even though the Mensah “drives just like any other car in its range”, and “I love it, my only issue with the manufacturers is that they should be looking more at building mass-produced vehicles which many Ghanaians can afford; like the small cars now used for Uber in Accra”.

In his view, “Kantanka can be the model for taxis in Ghana if only the manufacturer can target the $8 – 12,000 market”.

“Keep it basic! A/C, radio, no frills”, the president’s cousin suggested.

His comments follow a raging debate about plans by German car maker Volkswagen to put up a plant in Ghana by the middle of 2019 vis-à-vis the existence of Kantanka and what that portends for the local car assembler.
