Accra, Aug. 4, GNA - The Ministry of Energy on Thursday announced the installation of a new Ultrasonic Meter on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah at the Jubilee Fields to enhance the measurement system of crude oil in the storage tanks.

A statement in Accra signed by Dr Joe Oteng-Adjei, Minister of Energy, said the new Ultrasonic Meter which had been calibrated under field conditions would guarantee accurate measurement of crude oil in the FPSO storage tanks.

It said given the comprehensiveness of the measurement systems that had always been employed at the Jubilee Fields, Ghanaians could be assured that revenue from the Field was and will always be secure.

The statement explained that the new installation was in fulfilment of a promise made in May to Ghanaians to replace the existing equipment on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

It emphasized that the quantities of crude oil in the FPSO storage tanks and the export tanks were measured using the calibrated and accurate portable electronic gauging tapes in the FPSO storage tanks before and after transfer of crude oil to the export tankers.

“These measurements, together with production volumes measured by metering devices located on each producing well and other parts of the production process, helped to confirm the export quantities.

“This represents a comprehensive system that enables use of separate, yet accurate metering procedures, that guarantee accurate measurements, even when any part of the measuring system fails,” it said.

The Ministry thanked Ghanaians for the support to the Government in ensuring that the country maximised the benefit of the oil find.
