The Metro Mass Transport Company (MMT) has decided not increase their fares in spite of the recent fuel price increase. The decision according to the company is in line with their objective of been a stabilizing factor in the country? transport industry. The deputy managing Director of MMT, Martin Afram, disclosed this in an interview with Happy News at the 10th Ghana International Trade Fair where the company has mounted an exhibition. According to Mr. Afram if MMT decides to increase fares, their tenets of establishment would be defeated because the recent fuel price increment is minimal and does call for any increase in fares by the company which would in effect bring constraint to the traveling public. He said the MMT would always develop innovative products that will offer comfort to the traveling public and spearhead the MMT to be the number one transport company of choice by the public. He mentioned the 15minute service and free transport for school children in uniform as some of the innovative products from the company that has improved the country?s transport services. Mr. Afram also added that since its inception MMT has been able to provide employment to about a thousand and five hundred people making it the single transport company in the country with a high workforce. He said that currently the company is in need of another thousand five hundred workers which are made up of drivers and conductors to take up vacancies for another batch of busses for the company which would be in the country soon. He said interested applicants can go the company?s stand at the 10th Ghana International Trade Fair to pick up a form. Also at the Fair Yesterday, president Kufuor paid a visit to the MMT?s stand where he commended the company for changing the country?s transport sector with the introduction of innovative services and urged them to come out with more innovative services.
