It is widely perceived that the challenges to sanitation in Ghana and many other developing nations are linked to the inability to create proper disposal points for solid waste, lack of enforcement of sanitation laws, population growth, poor financing of sanitation policies, rural-urban migration, poor sanitation infrastructure and many other factors. As such renowned plastic producers, Miniplast Limited Ghana has endorsed the initiatives of NGO, Youth In Sustainable Sanitation (YISS).

A team from YISS, led by the Project Manager Ricky Allotey honoured an invitation extended to them by the Deputy managing director of MiniPlast Limited, Mr. Nadim Ghanem-Pares to tour their company and also have a discussion about YISS’s 2020 project.

At the tour, Nicole Nadim expressed great interest in YISS’s initiative and hailed them for finding eco-friendly ways of managing waste and also constantly sensitizing the public about proper sanitation.

Head of Sustainable Initiatives Department, Nicole Gibson also reiterated her excitement about YISS’s projects especially their Borla boys tv series which is aimed at using comedy to educate the youth about environmental sanitation and public health while publicizing the existence of re-use and recycling facilities in Ghana.

Speaking of Youth in Sustainable Sanitation’s goals, Project Manager. Ricky Allotey said their objective is to make Ghana the most cleanest country in Africa, and that can only be achieved if community leaders and organizations help in changing the mindset of citizens as well as developing more creative and eco-friendly ways of managing waste.

YISS is a non-profit organization with the aim of sensitizing the youth on sanitation and public health. The focus of the initiative is on the youth and young adults. This is intended to change the mindset of the younger generation through media and film to adapt the best practices in sanitation.
