Accra, June 9, GNA - Mr Alexander Asum-Ahensah, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture has urged African fabric designers to introduce innovation to their products to achieve the desire impact globally.
"African fabrics in terms of quality and design are very attractive and are cherished all over the world, but needed to be improved upon to compete with others out there," he added.
Mr Asum-Ahensah gave the advice in a speech read on his behalf at the second edition of "African Fashion Night", to climax the commemoration of the African Unity Month on the theme: 93Culture and Development."
He pointed out that African fabrics could take the central stage in the world if Africans integrated their ideas and cross-bred their research works to come out with well-designed fabrics that would be attractive worldwide.
Mr Asum-Ahensah commended fabric designers, especially those from the polytechnics and expressed the hope that the sector would in the near future be a foreign exchange earner for the country.
Mrs Bernice Deh- Kumah, Acting Executive Director of the Du Bois Centre commended the foreign missions in Ghana, Ghana Textiles Printing Limited and Shanbrad Limited for supporting the Centre to organise the programme.
