The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, has announced that the sector minister will personally lead a team to various mining communities across the country to conduct on-site registration of miners.

The initiative aims to decentralise the registration process, making it more accessible to miners, particularly those in remote areas, and to foster a future of shared prosperity within the mining sector.

Speaking at the Mining and Minerals Convention in Accra on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the deputy minister reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that even illegal small-scale miners would be engaged in the process.

“In the past, we expected miners to travel to the Regional Commission’s office for registration. But starting next week, the Minister will lead a team directly to mining sites to register them there,” he said.

“I also appreciated the suggestion from a lecturer who urged us to engage with the so-called NMCS [Non-Metallic Community Sites] to better understand their concerns. That way, our decisions will be well-informed.”

Alhaji Sulemana emphasised the Ministry’s intention to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in shaping the future of mining in Ghana.

“We are committed to bringing everyone on board. Whatever decisions we make, we want them to be transparent and inclusive, so that no one is left behind,” he added.

The move is expected to streamline regulatory oversight, improve data collection, and promote responsible mining practices across the country.
