Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry on Friday announced his interest to table a memo before Cabinet to change the legislative framework that establishes the Ghana Standard Authority.
He said the Standards Decree, 1973 (NRCD 175) which provides the promulgation of standards and ensuring high quality goods and related matters needed to be change to make it more vibrant and relevant.
Mr Iddrisu made this known during a familiarisation tour to the headquarters of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Accra.
He envisaged that the review of the ACT 175 would empower the institution with more space and autonomy and promote standards at the inspection points, industry and commerce with efficiency and development.
The Minister commended management and staff of GSA for their dedication and commitment to duty but urged them to move to the next level as the ministry is prepared to support them.
He challenged management to set up an office in the Upper West Region by the close of the year to complete their presence and visibility throughout the country.
Dr George Ben Crentsil, Executive Director of GSA praised the Minister and entourage for the visit within a short time of his appointment, pledging full collaboration with him.
