Minister visits Glo Mobile Ghana offices

The Minister of Communication, Dr. Kofi Omane-Boamah has congratulated Glo Mobile Ghana for winning the 2012 Most Innovative Product award at the recently held telecommunications Awards.

The commendation came at the close of a tour of the Glo Mobile Ghana Head offices and its facilities in Accra today.

Briefing the Management of Glo Mobile Ghana, Dr Omane-Boamah expressed hope that having started on such credible pedestal, Glo would continue to exceed general expectations and deliver optimum services to their customers.

‘What I like about Glo’s rollout plans, is the fact that the company is seriously targeting services to our rural communities, locating more than 50 percent of its bay-stations in the hinterland,’ Dr. Omane-Boamah told newsmen at a post-visit briefing.

He said he personally identified a link between the absence of network coverage for most parts of Ghana’s hinterland and the alarming spate of highway robberies perpetrated on highways in those areas.

‘The robbers chose to ambush us on the highways along those parts of the hinterland that have no telephone coverage. Widening your network’s coverage to our rural communities therefore not only serves to improve business and social life there, it comes with significant security implications,’ said the minister.

Dr Omane-Boamah urged the leadership of Glo to collaborate closely with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) which is engaged in the laying of fibre across the eastern corridor and which also spearheads the e-Government project so that the two institutions may enjoy and benefit from each other’s operations.

The visit to Glo Mobile Ghana was the final leg of a scheduled tour by the Minister of Communications to Telecommunications companies operating in the country.

Speaking on behalf of Management, Mr. Derek Obuobi, Head of Admin at Glo Mobile Ghana said the Minister’s visit and interaction with Management was very fruitful as it serves to invigorate Glo’s commitment to deliver the best of telecom services to Ghanaians in consonance with the government’s agenda of improving telecommunication and making it accessible and affordable throughout the country.

Accompanied by the Deputy Minister, Ms. Victoria Hammer and top officials of the Ministry of Communications, Dr Omane-Boamah held discussions with the Management of Glo regarding broad issues like the quality of telecom services, co-location of telecom sites, and access of telecom services to rural communities.

The Minister and his entourage interacted with staff encouraging them to give off their best to build a robust network which will serve the best interest of Ghana. He also toured Glo’s Kaneshie Switch.
