Ministry poised to play role in partnership- Barimah

Accra, Jan 27, GNA- Mr Yaw Barimah, Minister of Manpower Development and Employment (MDE) has stated that his ministry was in partnership with other social counterparts of the National Tripartite Committee to improve the working conditions of workers. To this end, he said, the ministry was prepared to dialogue with other partners during negotiations until a consensus was reached on labour issues.

Mr Barimah gave the assurance at a New Year reception organised by his Ministry in honour of members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises and Social Partners of the National Tripartite Committee (NTC) at Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra on Tuesday.

He urged the social partners to guard against paying lip service to workers' course and exhibit, a deep sense of commitment, selflessness, goodwill, sacrifice and dedication to duty.

This, the Minister said was the surest way forward in helping to create a congenial atmosphere towards the economic emancipation of the ordinary worker.

Mr Barimah commended Parliament for passing the Labour Law, and hoped meaning would be given to the law to ensure peaceful, and congenial labour environment to speed up the socio-economic transformation of the country.

On the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, the Minister entreated politicians to pursue their various political agenda with much circumspection, reminding them that in spite of their political affiliations, the national interest should supersede their individual parochial interests.

He charged Ghanaians to rise up to resist temptations of this election year, do well to avoid resorting to acrimony, and to ensure that despite their political differences, the nation's forward march, reigned supreme.
