Accra, June 14, GNA - The Ministry of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City is working with the relevant public agencies, to reduce high airfares and hotel tariffs that make Ghana an expensive tourist destination.

Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Sector Minister, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra on Monday said: "We want to pool resources and work closely with stakeholders to address the challenge."

He said the Ministry wanted to overcome the high cost associated with the tourist industry and was encouraging the private sector to organize charted flights at reduced airfares and exploring the possibility of making airport visas available at competitive prices to tourists to destinations in Africa.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said the Ministry would collaborate with security agencies to keep out undesirable visitors and ensure the security and safety of tourists.

"The Ministry will build the capacity of the Ghana Tourist Board to ensure compliance of good standards of hygiene in the operation of hospitality services and apply sanction where necessary."
