The Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Wednesday received plastic packages from Qualiplast Limited towards this year's National Farmers' Day scheduled to take place in the Sefwi Wiawso town of Western Region.

Ms Dalia Akl, Marketing and Corporate Communication Manager of Qualiplast presented assorted plastic packs comprising coolers, watering cans and galloons, among others, to the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of crops, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, Chairman of the 2014 Farmers Day Planning Committee.

Dr Alhassan expressed gratitude to the company for being the first to contribute towards the celebration, which would cost GH? 5 million, and urged public spirited individuals and corporate bodies to emulate the gesture to help give befitting prizes to the gallant Ghanaian farmers.

He said the theme for the 30th Farmers Day celebration: “Eat what we grow” was to reinforce President John Dramani Mahama’s call on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of ‘buying, eating and selling’ made in Ghana goods to help drive national economic growth.

The Deputy Minister urged Ghanaians to heed the call to enable the country to rake in the needed foreign exchange to support national development efforts.

Ms Akl supported the call and said the people of Ghana ought to patronize made in Ghana goods so as to build a resilient economy to enhance the living conditions of the citizens.

Farmers' Day is in recognition of the invaluable contribution of Ghanaian farmers, fisher folks and relevant stakeholders in the agricultural sector to national development.

The national event is scheduled to take place in the Sefwi Wiawso town of Western region while all the 10 regions and the 216 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies are to reward deserving local farmers and fisher folks in their respective areas.
