Mobitel to go GSM by March

MOBITEL, the premier cellular phone network operator is to launch its Global Systems for Mobile communications (GSM) by the end of March.

Under a package for its customers, the network operator has designed schemes to enable its customers to move from analogue to the digital system.

Mr Morray Sivan, Managing Director, said in an end of year message to its numerous customers that they would enjoy substantial discounts on the new GSM handsets from Mobitel as well as packaged start kits and accessories.

The digital scheme is being undertaken with Ericsson Radio Systems AB, the world ‘s largest supplier of the wireless industry.

Also customers could retain their current numbers even when they migrate to Mobitel GSM.

Indications are that the company would provide the option for customers to use either analogue or GSM.

The managing director said the just ended year was a busy one for the company because it expanded its network in Accra, Takoradi, Tamale and extended its coverage at Tarkwa.

Besides, the company also launched value added service such as free e-.mail service on Mobitelnet.com.
