The Monitoring Manager at the Port of Tema, Nii Nii-Koi Amasa has explained that the paperless system at the ports by September 1, will to a large extent reduce challenges importers and freight forwarders face in clearing their goods at the ports.
In spite of that, he is cautioning that even though the paperless system will bring ease of doing business, importers must be weary of activities that cause delays in clearing their goods so as to avert the payment of demurrage.
Speaking in an interview with Eye on Port, Nii-Koi Amasa said the Port transformation committee should push to eliminate some unwarranted charges by freight forwarders and demurrage charges.
He charged importers to endeavour to clear their goods on time so as to save them cost.
