Starr Fm’s Kennedy Mornah has been nominated for the reporter of the year award at the Ghana Shippers Awards slated for the 30th of June 2017.

Mr. Mornah is the publisher and Managing Editor of the Maritime and Transport Digest Newspaper, a paper specialised in reporting in the Maritime industry.

His experience and expertise in reporting in the shipping industry spans almost a decade having anchored the first specialised bulletin for the shipping industry in Ghana on radio dubbed ‘’Maritime and Port News’’ on Oman Fm, a local radio station in Accra for almost 8 years.

He went further to establish the first and only newspaper in Ghana solely dedicated to reporting in the Maritime industry in July 2013 and has reported widely on various sectors of the industry locally and internationally.

His appreciation of issues relating to the industry makes him the reference point among his peers who usually require one clarification or the other on matters relating to the industry.

Having developed the passion for reporting and as a way of broadening his understanding of the industry, Mr. Mornah studied and holds a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Shipping and Transport Management and Executive Business Administration (EBA) with specialisation in Materials and Logistics Management from Cambridge International College, UK. In 2015, he was nominated by the Ghana Maritime Authority as part of Ghana’s Delegation to the ordinary and special sessions of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) General Assembly at the IMO headquarters in London.

Confirming the nomination to mynewsgh.com, Mr. Mornah said ‘’ This is a dream come true and it gladdens my heart because the nomination alone is indicative of the fact that people are watching the good works we are doing for this industry. It’s been a long time coming and we can only thank God for how far he has brought us’’.

He expressed gratitude to captains of industry who mentored him and offered him guidance in the industry.

He was particularly grateful to Mr. Martin Kwabena Kwakye, Director of radio at Oman Fm who he said literally held his hand and introduced him to most of the captains of industry and who also ushered him into the industry saying ‘’My debt to him is beyond measure. He virtually made me who I am today. God willing if I emerge the eventual winner I will dedicate the award to him’’.

Mr. Mornah also expressed gratitude to his superiors at EIB Network (Starr Fm) where he currently works as a broadcast journalist, explaining that even though they are aware he runs his own newspaper, they have not put any impediments in his way perhaps because he does not allow his private business to obstruct or interfere with his responsibilities to the company.

The Ghana Shippers Awards is aimed at recognising individuals and companies that have played a significant role in the growth and development of the industry. It is being organised by globe productions in association with the Ghana Shippers’ Authority and Graphic Business.
