Mtel planning network expansion

Ghana's Mtel the mobile unit of incumbent Nitel is to expand its network capacity from the current 1.2 million lines to six million “in the years to come” under a “multi-vendor approach” according to deputy general manager, Abdul-Hamid Umar.

Ericsson, Motorola, Huawei Technologies and ZTE will all be involved in upgrading and expanding Mtel’s network infrastructure.

Since it launched GSM services in 2001, Mtel is reported to have suffered from service failures.
