The Acting Director General (DG) of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Joe Anokye, has charged Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to improve Quality of Service (QoS).

He noted that as the world was moving towards 5G, Ghana was still facing problems with its 2G implementation.

Mr. Anokye said improving and enhancing the Quality of Service should be a priority for all service providers and they should work to resolve the various issues including capacity, optimisation, and coverage.

He charged them at a meeting with Chief Technical Officers (CTOs) of the telcos to review the progress made towards improving Quality of Service issues within the Accra-Tema metropolis. This follows a previous meeting at the NCA on the 17th of March, 2017.

The meeting agreed to the suggestion from the CTOs that all CTOs of the MNOs would meet to agree on the common challenges facing the telcos, identify the common gap in the provision of their respective services and submit a report to the NCA.

The NCA also informed the MNOs that the regulator would set up a team which would collectively work with them to resolve the issues and ensure that consumers experience a better level of service.

Two critical areas which the MNOs were tasked to resolve within the shortest possible time were the issues of Coverage and Call Drops.

According to the MNOs, some of the difficulties they faced were acquiring sites for masts and towers, especially in and around the high end areas and educational institutions.

They expressed dismay at the lack of support from land owners and neighbored which makes it very difficult for them to deliver the needed service.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing on the need for a collaborative effort to improve QoS issues and enhance consumer satisfaction.
