The National Communications Authority has given telecom operator, Glo, two weeks to address or bring to book the perpetrators of the international SIM box fraud.

According to the telecoms regulator, it will be forced to identify all these fraudsters and block all the numbers if Glo fails to comply.

Nearly 30,000 fraudulent activities causing huge losses to the nation were recorded in August, from 2,500 in January.

Glo’s network was the most used. A Director at the NCA, Kwame Baah, in an interview with XYZ BUSINESS said NCA will crack the whip if the telecom firm fails to live up to expectation.

“It is not sanction, it is about dealing with the situation; so now if we have to get this identity of these fraudsters we have to do that. If we have to sit by Glo to ensure that every number identified is blocked within an hour we will find resources and put at the offices and ensure that these numbers are blocked accordingly.”

Mr. Baah rubbished the argument that telecom firm Glo is the least expensive network in Ghana, that is why there is increased international SIM box fraud.
