NCCE urges public to shun middlemen during currency change

Hansua (B/A), April 27, GNA- Mr. Alfred Eyison, senior accountant officer of the Techiman branch of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has advised traders and the general public to expose middlemen during the period of the currency change. He cautioned against people posing as officials of the Bank of Ghana (BOG) mandated to assist in the changing of the currency during the re-denomination exercise.

"There was the likelihood of unscrupulous people taking advantage of the process of changing the currency by posing as officials of the central bank".

Mr. Eyison gave the advice during a ceremony to mark the end of the month-long Easter activities of the Presbyterian Church in the Techiman municipality.

He said it was important for the general public to expose people who exhibit suspicious behaviours during the exercise to forestall the cheating of especially farmers by such unscrupulous people. Mr. Simon Gagah, Nkoranza District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice entreated Christians to spread the education on the re-denomination exercise to enable others to become well informed about the new Ghana cedi.

The Reverend Mercy Adjei Dankyi of the Trinity Presbyterian Church at Techiman expressed gratitude to the staff of the NCCE for the good work they were offering to ensure the success of the exercise. Rev. Dankyi charged the church members not to become only disciples of the church but also of the nation.
