Artillery Regiment to commemorate establishment

Ho, April 6, GNA - The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho will on Monday April 11, this year, begin a weeklong celebration to commemorate its establishment on 16 April 1966.

A press release signed by Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Yanyi-Akofur, Commanding Officer said during the period officers and men of the regiment would undertake outreach activities outside the Volta Barracks to strengthen the regiment's bond of cooperation with the community. The release said the officers and men would on April 11, this year go on an HIV/AIDS campaign awareness procession on the principal streets of Ho to be followed the next day with blood donation at the Volta Regional Hospital.


It said troops of the regiment would for three days from April 13 to 15, participate in constructional activities on selected projects being undertaken by the Ho Municipal Assembly.

The 66 Artillery Regiment came into existence on the 16th April 1966 as the Medium Mortar Regiment (MMR), until June 3, 2003 when the unit took delivery of new artillery pieces and was thus renamed 66 Artillery Regiment.
