The National Pensioners Association (NPA) has commended the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) on the new Pension Indexation for 2014.

The announcement, which raised the minimum pension from GH¢100.00 to GH¢200.00 a month, will affect 60 per cent of all SSNIT pensioners.

A statement issued to Ghana News Agency by Mr Edward Ameyibor, General Secretary, NPA, explained that the increase, would affect majority of its members.

He said the increase was also in line with the advocacy of members for minimum pension to be equivalent to the National minimum wage.

Mr Ameyibor said the increment of the minimum pension from GH¢26.00 to GH¢200.00, within five years is praise worthy.

“We note that all other pensions have been increased by 10 per cent and an additional across the board amount of GH¢9.62,” he added.

The General Secretary appealed to SSNIT, to in future stumble the level of increment, to proportionally help persons between the maximum and the minimum pensions.

He also urged SSNIT; to continue with its prudent investment drive as well as collecting all debts owed it, to give the scheme a long life.
