The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) is planning to invest heavily in the construction of oil tanker parking terminal around Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to ease vehicular congestion around the Refinery.

The Chief Executive Officer of NPA (CEO) Mr. Hassan Tampuli, who announced this during an interaction with journalists in Accra, said his outfit is worried about the challenges Petroleum Tanker drivers go through to have a space to park their trucks and move when it is their turn to go and lift fuel from the Tema Oil Refinery hence their decision.

“If you go to the Tema enclave that’s TOR area …you go there and the trucks are parked anyhow at different places to the extent that it becomes difficult for some vehicles to even get a space to park. The roads are also not motorable.

“So the NPA has seized the moment to construct 1000 capacity parking lots to ease congestion around the Refinery,” he hinted.

Mr. Hassan added that the Authority will also make sure that the deplorable state of the road network in the area is fixed so that movement of trucks could be controlled.

“We want to make sure that if you don’t have allocation to go and lift fuel you are parked within the yard and then when it is time for you to go you go and load so we tidy up the area,” the NPA Boss stressed.

According to Mr Tampuli, the Authority is in the process of doing similar thing at Buipe in a bid to ensure that Petroleum products which are delivered are of high quality.
