Nestlé MILO in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has once again demonstrated its commitment to promoting and rewarding academic excellence in Ghana by recognizing 20 students a boy and a girl each from the then 10 regions of Ghana and 4 students with special educational needs with outstanding performance in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Each of the 24 students received attractive winning package including a crystal plaque, a medal, a Samsung Tablet, Cash Prize, Certificate signed by the President of the Republic of Ghana, and one year supply of Nestlé Products at a ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre as part of Ghana’s 62nd Independence Day.
Speaking at the Ceremony His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana said, “These students have brought considerable joy and pride to their families, schools, communities, and to themselves. I am inspired because I know I am looking into the eyes of our country’s future”. He urged the students to continue to strive for excellence and thanked Nestlé for continuously contributing to supporting academic excellence in Ghana.
In a speech delivered at the awards ceremony, Philomena Tan, Managing Director of Nestlé Ghana said, “over 62 years, Nestlé continues to contribute to nation building, through the provision of healthier and tastier food choices that complements the nutritional needs for growth and wellbeing of Individuals and Families and through a number of Creating Shared Value (CSV) initiatives”.
She reaffirmed Nestlé belief that empowerment through education is key to sustainable development and guarantees the future of a Nation that invest in its youth.
The President’s Independence Day Awards was established in 1993. Since inception, the award scheme has provided scholarships each year to brilliant young students. The awardees are selected based on their exceptional raw scores obtained in the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Aside the Presidents’ Independence Day Awards, Nestlé MILO® champions other youth development initiatives in sports such as the Milo under- 13 Champion’s League, which reaches over 100,000 schoolchildren with sporting activities across the country every year.
