The new British High Commissioner, Iain Walker paid a visit to the factory of the Booomers to look at first hand the activities of the company.
Mr. Walker assumed office as the British High Commissioner to Ghana after Mr. Jon Benjamin who left in June this year.
His visit formed part of his first visit to the Asante Region since his assumption of Office. He paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II before making his way to the Booomers Factory.
Mr. Walker said he had heard a lot about the exploits of Booomers and its impacts on the local communities.
He said, Booomers have earned a reputation for itself as one of the successful businesses which had support from the ENGINE programme, a multi-year donor program funded by the UKAID and implemented by TEchnoserve from Ghana.
The ENGINE program is designed to support small businesses with seed finding and business support services. In 2014, Booomers was one of the companies to have benefitted from that.
Booomers International, is a bamboo processing company based in the Asante Region of Ghana with direct workforce of about 40 employees.
These include 32 employees and 8 trainees. The company currently produces different ranges of bicycles including mountain, city, road and electric bikes from Bamboo.
They have also introduced the bamboo tricycles, balance bikes, bicycles baskets, bicycle stands and a host of new products which are mainly exported to different countries.
The company has been described by other industry players, especially distributors as the biggest producer of bamboo bikes and accessories in Africa.
The company currently have their products being in Germany, Netherlands, Canada, United States, Italy, France, Belgium and will be launching in the UK in March next year.
The CEO, Mr. Kwabena Danso said he will forever be grateful to the ENGINE programme and the UKAID for the support they gave him. He said, we started this whole project with four people in a single room of about 13 feet square and today, with the linkages and support services we had, we now have a fully -fledged factory.
To Mr. Danso, his greatest vision if the build the biggest bamboo industry in Africa. The company has also started a 50-acre bamboo plantation to provide sustainable raw materials to the factory and provide further employment.
