Accra,(Greater Accra Region) 13 Oct. The Bank of Ghana today put into circulation new sizes of 1,000 cedis, 2,000 cedis and 5,000 cedis notes. Mr. Henry Ammah, Head of Issue of the Bank of Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency that some commercial banks which put in requests were issued with the notes on Friday while other requests were being handled. He said the requests are being handled as and when they are made by the commercial banks. Mr. Ammah said the Central Bank is issuing both new and old notes to the commercial banks since the two will circulate side by side. The Bank said the notes have been reduced in size for ''easier handling'' and that features of the reduced sizes are the same as those of the original sizes. The new sizes are 1,000 cedis - 140mm x 70mm; 2,000 cedis 145mm x 72.5mm; 5,000 150mm x 75mm. All three denominations have security threads which weave in and out of the paper.
