Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko has emphasized the role of new technology in job creation, admitting that old technology has gradually faded away.
According to Mr Agyarko, embracing new technology and innovation will aid in tackling the unemployment challenges the country is facing.
“The old technology or the old way of doing things has almost come to an end and what it can offer with job creation. We must be looking at new technologies to provide the way forward for job creation in Ghana and in the world generally,” the lawmaker affirmed.
He posited that the inability of most countries to create job opportunities is a major challenge that cannot be overlooked.
“A major challenge that faces Ghana, and the world at large, is the inability of economies to create or find jobs for particularly young people. It is obvious that the way forward for the whole world is through science and technology, innovation,”
He added, “It is evident that government has come to the realization that science, technology and innovation is not a matter of serendipity. You don’t walk on the road and find it. You must put money in it as new technologies develop; as science, technology and innovation develops, it creates space for industry.”
The legislator made these comments in an interview with Ghanaweb at the launch of the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Science Granting Councils Initiatives in Accra.
The 2018 Annual Meeting of the Science Granting Councils Initiatives is themed “Research and Innovation for Job Creation”.
The Science Granting Council Initiative in Sub-Saharan Africa (SGCI) aims at strengthening the capacities of science granting councils in sub-Saharan Africa in order to support research and evidence-based policies that will contribute to the Africa’s economic and social development.
