Nigeria to promote bilateral business with Ghana

Koforidua, Aug. 18, GNA- The Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Olatunji Kolapo, has assured Ghanaians of his country readiness to promote joint business with Ghana.

The High Commissioner gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo-Mensah on Tuesday, as part of his two-day duty tour of the Eastern Region. Dr Kolapo who took office three months ago, said his tour was to enable him to familiarize himself with the Eastern Region and to meet and interact with Nigerian community in the region.

He observed that Ghana and Nigeria were peace-loving countries whose leaders were playing a leading role in political and economic development of West Africa.

The Regional Minister briefed Dr Kolapo of the economic potential including gold, diamond and bauxite deposits in the region. He said the region also produces large quantities of oranges and pineapples, which could be processed into fruit juice.

Dr Osafo-Mensah said the region also produces cocoa and has one of the leading cocoa research institutes in Africa.

He said there are a lot of tourist sites, festivals and cultural relics, which could be developed for tourism industry. The Nigerian High Commissioner later paid a courtesy call on the New Juaben Traditional Council and heads of the Nigerian communities in the municipality.
