Accra, Nov. 17, GNA - The Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Wednes= day received donations from nine corporate entities towards this year's Natio= nal Farmers' Day. The donation is the fourth in the series of presentations to be made= to the Ministry.
The companies that made their donations on Wednesday were Ghana Heav= y Equipments Limited, which presented a three multi-crop pressure and a che= que for GH¢2,500, Amank Agric and Equipment Company limited, which gave a three-disk plough worth GH¢3,800 and GISGO Ventures, which donated 200 bags of Tilapia Feeds and a cheque for GH¢200. COCOBOD made donations of items and cash totalling GH¢150,000,000.= It presented motorized spraying machines, hand sprayers, machetes, Wellingto= n boots, hand gloves, wax prints, radio cassette recorders, television sets= , refrigerators, and bicycles worth GH¢96,989.00. It also presented GH¢5,000, GH¢3,000, GH¢2,000, and GH¢5,000= to the best cocoa farmer, coffee farmer, sheanut picker and the planning committ= ee of MOFA in that order. In addition, it donated a Toyota Hilux 4*4 vehicle=
worth GH¢41,396.00 to be presented the Best Cocoa Farmer and sponsorshi= p of an Agric Show outside Ghana estimated at US$8,000.
The rest were Shyams Ghana Limited, which presented 300 bags of chic= ken feed and a cheque for GH¢1,000; Calli Ghana Limited, 18 cartons of Agro=
chemicals and a cheque for GH¢2,000; Qualiplast, plastic items worth GH¢4,000; Fan Milk, 10 boxes of Fanyogo worth GH¢200 and a cheque for=
GH¢5,000; and National Investment Bank GH¢5,000.
Farmers' Day is in recognition of the valuable contribution of the nation's farmers, fishermen and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to national development.
The national event is scheduled to take place in the Eastern Region,=
while all the 10 regions and districts are to hold regional and district activities to reward deserving local farmers and fishermen. Receiving the items, Mr Yaw Effah-Baafi, Deputy Minister of Food and=
Agriculture in Charge of Crops, expressed gratitude for the donations. He said it was important for country and individuals to recognize th= e hard work of farmers towards national development and called on stakeholders, companies and individuals to also donate towards this gener= ous cause. 17 Nov. 10
