The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has clarified that it has not made any decisions regarding a potential increase in transport fares.

This announcement aims to quell recent rumors and speculation suggesting that the union would be increasing transport fares.

Despite the recent surge in fuel prices, the union has decided to keep transport fares unchanged while it continues to engage with all relevant stakeholders to determine the appropriate fares that will not be detrimental to the public.

"Even though fuel prices have recently seen upward adjustments, transport fares will remain the same until such a decision is reached and communicated to the public," the union noted in a statement released in Accra on Sunday, July 7, 2024. The statement was jointly signed by its Deputy National Public Relations Officer, Samuel Amoah, and a national communications team member, Eric Ashrifi Aryee.

The GPRTU stated that it is their policy to communicate any fare adjustments publicly, ensuring that passengers are well-informed and prepared.

It urged commuters to disregard any information suggesting a fare hike.

In a show of appreciation, the GPRTU expressed gratitude to the public for their support during their recent congress and looks forward to continued cooperation to ensure a smooth transport sector.
