Nobody has the right to demand KPMG's full report - Majority in Parliament

The Majority in Parliament has dismissed the calls for the complete KPMG audit report concerning the revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority and SML to be released.

This comes after the Presidency, in a press release dated April 24, 2024, disclosed that the contracts incurred fees exceeded one billion Ghana cedis since 2018, a claim denied by SML.

The opposition NDC has amplified the call for the full report's publication by President Akufo-Addo.

However, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in an address to the media, stated that the report is intended for the President's advisory use in making decisions, and thus, it is not appropriate for public release.

He emphasized that while the law allows public access to documents for transparency, this particular report is a confidential advisory tool for the President's use.

“There’s no doubt in our minds, that the document is for advisory purposes, it is an opinion that is guiding Mr. President in decision making. So, it is not within the rights of anybody to demand it.

“Much as it is in the law that members of the public have the right to receive public documents for the sake of transparency and good governance, it is also a bona fide document of the president to give this advice, and opinion to himself,” he said.
