Nokia storms Ghana with Lumia 920

It is sleek and cute. It is one of the newest on the market. It packs unbelievable features. It comes in a variety of sparkling colours. It is Nokia’s flagship phone. It is called Lumia 920 and it is in town and making waves on the phone market.

Lumia 920 which was recently launched in Ghana and a few other countries ahead of its subsequent global launch is arguably the world’s most innovative smart phone running on the Windows 8 operating system.

Nokia said Ghana was chosen for the first phase of the international launch of the Lumia 920 because the country is one of Nokia’s largest markets today. “The Lumia 920 is the best phone Nokia has made to date”, Nokia West Africa Vice-President James Rutherford said of the device at the Accra launch.

Rutherford said Nokia’s Lumia 920 is poised to give Nokia’s customers “the best smart phone experience yet.”

Lumia 920 comes with full-versions of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Internet Explorer 10. Some of the unique features of the Lumia 920 include an inbuilt wireless charging system, Nokia’s new Pure Motion HD Plus display with a 1280 x 768 resolution, Nokia Maps and Nokia City Lens.

The maps and lens together form a unique, augmented reality application that helps users of the device to locate places by simply holding up the phone!

The Lumia 920 comes with the latest innovations in the smart phone category. They include an optical image stabilization system and an advanced floating lens technology that takes in five times more light than other smart phones, enabling users to capture sharp, crisp pictures and videos indoors and at night without using a flash.

The lenses on the camera of Lumia 920 shifts precisely to compensate for shaky hands. The results are sharper images in low light and smoother video capture. It can also be charged without being plugged in. The user simply places it on a wireless charging pod and viola..!

The device has a touch shutter, and a host of shooting modes to choose from. Nokia has also pre-loaded special lenses into the camera application such as Panorama and Cinemagraph, which add a unique sheen to the images the user wants to shoot.

That is not all: Lumia 920 incorporates the “Pure View technology”, which is actually a collection of various technologies that result in images with a quality that were never seen before in a camera phone. “Until you have tried out a particular feature of this great phone, all that we are saying about this phone will be nothing more than marketing jargon to you” a Nokia official told reporters in an interview after the Accra launch.

He said the best way of evaluating the Lumia 920, “is to put it right next to an iPhone 5, to see how both flagship phones perform. A comparison of images shot with the two phones in various lighting conditions, go to confirm the spectacular nature of the phone’s camera.”

“The taste of the pudding lies in the eating. Try it and see for yourself” says shipping agent Larry Obeng who recently purchased the device. He adds that the Lumia 920 “can do all that a lap top computer does and far much more.”

The Lumia 920 is however considered by some users to be slightly heavy. Nokia officials say the weight should not be a problem as the weight distribution is even.

In a related development, Nokia’s operations in Ghana will be overseen by Mr. Nick Imudia who replaces James Rutherford as Nokia West Africa Vice-President with immediate effect.
