Market women in Nsawam, located in the Eastern Region, are expressing their distress over poor sales, highlighting a significant drop in patronage.

They report that this downturn has been ongoing for months, adversely impacting their livelihoods and businesses.

In an interview with Happyghana.com, conducted on the sidelines of Happy 98.9FM's 'Happy on Wheel' show at the Nsawam lorry station, the market women linked the slump in sales to the prevailing economic hardship in the country.

This hardship has resulted in a decrease in disposable income for many consumers.

"We offer foodstuffs, clothing, and other essential items, but the demand is low. We used to have robust sales, but now, we consider ourselves fortunate if we manage to sell even a quarter of our stock. It's taking a toll on us," lamented Sister Adwoa, one of the traders.

The market women are calling on the government and relevant stakeholders to provide support through initiatives that could enhance their sales and help sustain their businesses.

"We're not requesting much, just some assistance to enable us to sell our products and earn a livelihood," they stated.
