Osafo-Maafo leads team World Bank/IMF meeting

ACCRA, Sept 16, GNA - A four-member Government delegation led by Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning left Accra last Sunday to attend the Commonwealth Ministers Meeting and the Annual General meeting of the world Bank and IMF.

The Commonwealth meeting was scheduled from September 16-18 in Brunei and that of the World Bank and IMF is fixed for September 21 -24 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Accra said the Commonwealth meeting will discuss the World Economic situation and prospects, including progress and prospect for the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.

The special theme for this year's meeting is: 'Delivery of Basic Services to the Poor'.

The Senior Finance Officials segment will focus on the Public and Private Partnership in Finance Infrastructure.

The World Bank and IMF meeting is held each year back to back with the Commonwealth Finance Ministers meetings.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the work of the World Bank and IMF and a range of issues related to global economic developments with the view to formulate policies and strategies to address major developmental challenges.

The statement said the meeting would also provide an excellent opportunity for consultations with government officials from other countries and private sector representatives.
