Management of MTN Ghana have assured Ghanaians that their masts installed in the various communities are safe.

Mrs Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive (CSE) of MTN- Ghana said experts at the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) have certified the safety of the masts and that MTN normally involves the Commission during installations.

She therefore entreated Ghanaians to disabuse their minds that the masts are harmful and must not object to its installation, saying that, despite the intensification of education on the safety of the masts, communities continue to express fears and worry.

Mrs Lumor gave the assurance when she interacted with editors from the Western Region at a forum in Takoradi.

She said another challenge was the frequent cuts of their underground cables by contractors and illegal miners, which often disrupts their network, saying that, efforts were being made to find solutions to the problem to ensure smooth transactions.

Touching on their commitment to the nation, the CSE noted that MTN-Ghana was the largest contributor among the telecommunication companies to the country’s revenue generation and that they would intensify their innovations to make more strides.

On their corporate social responsibility, Mrs Lumor said despite the high taxation, utility tariffs and exchange rates, MTN Ghana has supported the communities in areas of health, education, entertainment and other social supports throughout the country.

She mentioned some of the benevolence as construction, as well as maintenance of schools, hospitals, bore holes, Information Technology Centres, among others.

Mr Moses Dotsey Aklorbortu, Chairman of the Western Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) stressed the importance of corporate institutions to establish rapport with journalists for easier and free flow of information in order to come out with credible stories.

He noted that effective collaboration would do away with sensationalism as perceived by some people.
